Direct answer
Go east from the north side of Ossex, get the map, then aim northeast
After Ossex opens up, your first job is to stop wandering blind. Work toward the Hollower's Guild map, check the newspaper and fountain clues, then make Queensbury Crypt in the northeast your first serious generator target. The route is not mandatory, but it gives a strong early reward and avoids sending you into rougher territory too soon.
- Talk to town NPCs before leaving
- Use the fountain lights for generator direction
- Rescue Rhene and buy the map
- Treat west and southwest as later commitments if they feel too sharp
01
Why northeast is the best first generator target
While you have the freedom to explore any path, some routes are significantly tougher than others. For your first generator, heading northeast is the cleanest choice because it teaches you the game's routing logic while offering high-value rewards.
- It gives a clear destination after the map points you outward.
- It avoids the common mistake of forcing harder western routes too early.
- It can lead to the Proton Spark reward, a major survival tool for new players.
02
Use town clues when the road feels blocked
It is easy to feel lost right after your first thorn fight. Instead of immediately looking up a full walkthrough, read the town newspaper, listen to NPCs, and check the fountain lights around town to find your bearings.
- If east seems blocked by locks, keep looking around the north and south exits instead of assuming the route is impossible.
- If enemies suddenly hit much harder, you may be entering a later-feeling path.
- If a path asks for too many keys or vials, return to town and re-check your clues.
04
Do not confuse optional challenge with main progress
Mina's world has early side paths that are technically reachable but not equally friendly. If a detour keeps costing Sparks, Sidearms, or a full vial supply, it is probably not your best first road.
- A locked door is a note, not a failure.
- A strong enemy near town may be a difficulty warning.
- A shortcut, map upgrade, or train station can be better progress than another death deep in a side route.
Safe prep
Spend before commitment
If you can Bone Up or buy a useful item, do it before the generator route. The run feels much better when death is not threatening a large pile of Bones.
Route clue
The map is broad on purpose
Do not expect a room-by-room dungeon map. Its value is showing generator direction so you can choose a route instead of sweeping the whole island randomly.
Difficulty spike
The first post-town jump is real
Expect a sharp spike in difficulty and path complexity once you leave Ossex. If you get overwhelmed, focus on securing shortcuts, gathering information, and building up your survival capacity first.
Spoiler-light
You can leave and come back
You don't always have to push every route to the end on your first try. Use your freedom to grab valuable items, fall back, and return only when you are better prepared.
Need the systems before the route?
If Bone loss, healing, burrowing, or upgrade choices are still unclear, read the beginner guide first and then return to this route.
